CES 2026: Samsung Unveils Voice-Activated Fridge

As part of CES 2026, Samsung showcased its latest updates to its Family Hub smart fridge line-up, featuring new AI functionality driven by the newly announced Gemini AI from Google.

The updated AI Vision system, which utilises a new camera mounted at the front-middle of the unit, can recognise food items to suggest recipes or prompt users before food expires. Through the Family Hub interface, users can also query the fridge on specific inventory levels, such as checking milk stock while at the supermarket.

The hardware highlight of the new range is hands-free operation with voice-activated door opening and closing. Samsung’s Bixby assistant handles the voice commands to actuate the doors. During demonstrations, either the left or right door—or both—could be opened or closed individually.

On command, the doors open to a full 90 degrees, a step up from previous versions that only cracked the seal. The doors can also be opened or closed with a simple nudge or tap.
